CRPF Director seeks report on Buddhia issue
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 4
Under attack from various human rights organisations for making four-and-a-half-year-old Buddhia Singh run a gruesome 65-km marathon, CRPF Director-General J.K. Sinha has sought a report into the incident from the force’s Orissa unit.

“Permission from the CRPF Headquarters, which is mandatory, was not taken (for sponsoring the marathon). We have asked for a report on the incident from Additional DIG S.K. Gill,” the CRPF chief told The Tribune. “Any action, if needed, could be taken only after the receipt of the report,” Mr Sinha added.

The CRPF-sponsored record-breaking run on Tuesday created a controversy with human rights groups and medical experts coming out with all ill-effects of such a marathon on the child prodigy.

Starting his run from Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, Buddhia reached Bhubaneshwar thereby making an entry into the Limca Book of Records by covering 65 km in 7.02 hours.

Though he was supposed to complete a distance of 70 km, an exhausted Buddhia slumped about 5 km from his destination of the CRPF group centre there.

The wonder-kid has previously traversed the distance between Puri and Bhubaneswar several times.
