Suryanarayan's wife still critical

Hyderabad, May 4
Slain telecom engineer K. Suryanarayan's wife Manjula, who attempted suicide on Monday, continued to remain in a critical condition.

Hours before the body of her husband, who was killed by Taliban militants in Afghanistan, was brought here, Ms Manjula consumed toilet cleaner, after a woman claiming to be her husband's second wife, sought financial assistance from the government to maintain her family.

Ms Manjula, who was shifted to the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) here on May 2, was still in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.

''Blood pressure and pulse are stable. Blood vomitings have stopped. She has developed severe abdominal pain and respiratory distress. However, she is unable to talk properly because of vocal chord involvement," a medical bulletin issued by the institute said.
