India says no to changes in nuclear deal
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 4
India today made it clear that it would not accept any "amendments" to the civilian nuclear agreement signed with the United States.

"The Government of India's position remains that our commitments are to those that are outlined in the joint statement of July 18, 2005," Ministry of External Affairs' spokesman said in response to a question about a statement from Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice.

In this statement, Ms Rice had told an Indian parliamentary delegation in Washington that India must be prepared to accept "amendments" to the agreement signed between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President George W. Bush here on March 2.
