Koirala to head new govt

Kathmandu, April 25
Nepal’s opposition parties today named veteran politician Girija Prasad Koirala to head a new government, but divisions appeared in the movement for democracy, with Maoists rejecting restoration of the 2002 Parliament and vowing to continue their blockade of the capital.

Lankan army chief hurt in suicide attack
Colombo, April 25
Ten Sri Lankan soldiers and civilians were killed while the Army chief, Lt-Gen Sarath Fonseka, was critically injured today when an LTTE suicide bomber disguised as a pregnant woman blew herself up inside Army Headquarters, in the first such attack here in two years.

Schoolchildren among 28 hurt in blasts
Srinagar, April 25
Some schoolchildren were among 28 persons injured in two explosions triggered by militants in Pulwama and Kupwara districts today. While 20 persons, including the schoolchildren, were injured when the militants hurled a grenade on a security patrol at the Tral bus stand in Pulwama district around 3 pm.

Complaints against Amarinder, 36 MLAs referred to EC
New Delhi, April 25
The Punjab Governor has referred the complaints about Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and other 36 MLAs of holding office of profit to the Election Commission.

Doctors rule out liver transplant on Mahajan

There is no improvement in the condition of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan since Monday with the doctors at the Hinduja Hospital saying he continued to be 'very critical'. The only sign of optimism today was that Mahajan's blood pressure began to stabilise.
