Shinde, Sushma take oath as RS members New Delhi, April 14 The newly elected members took oath in Parliament House chamber of the Rajya Sabha. The Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, Mr Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, and the Deputy Chairman, Mr K. Rehman Khan, were present at the time of oath, an official press note said. Those who took the oath included 12 members from BJP, Congress (6), NCP and JD (U) (2 each), one each from RJD, JD(S), Samajwadi Party, All-India Forward Bloc and All-India Trinamool Congress. Yesterday, 17 members, including Law Minister H.R. Bhardwaj, K Rehman Khan and former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi took oath. Besides Mr Jaitley and Ms Swaraj, elected from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, the other BJP members who took oath today were former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad (Bihar), Kanjibhai Maganbhai Patel (Gujarat), K.B. Shanappa (Karnataka), Narayan Singh Kesari, Anusuiya Uike and Vikran Varma (all from Madhya Pradesh), Bal Apte (Maharashtra), Bhagirathi Majhi (Orissa), Krishna Lal Balmiki (Rajasthan) and Kalraj Mishra (Uttar Pradesh). The Congress MPs were former AICC General Secretary Satyavrat Chaturvedi (Uttaranchal), Abhishek Singhvi (Rajasthan), Sushila Tiriya (Orissa), Rajeev Shukla and Sushil Kumar Shinde (Maharashtra) and Viplove Thakur (Himachal Pradesh). The other members were JD (u)'s Ali Anwar and Mahendra Sahni (Bihar), NCP's Praful Patel and Vasant Chavan (Maharashtra), Rajniti Prasad of RJD (Bihar), JD (S)'s M Rajasekara Murthy (Karnataka), SP's Janeshwar Mishra (UP), All-India Trinamool Congress's Mukul Roy and AIFB's Barun Mukherjee (West Bengal). |
