SP to field “strong” candidate against Sonia
Tribune News Service

Lucknow, April 4
The ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh is confident of winning the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat by fielding a “strong candidate” who will defeat AICC President Sonia Gandhi in the May 8 by poll.

Addressing the media, state PWD Minister and general secretary of the party Shivpal Singh Yadav said his party had been winning every bypoll in recent months and it would also ensure its victory in Rae Bareli, he claimed.

Refusing to give any hint, he said that the party nominee would be decided soon and so would the campaign.

Terming the shuffling of the top echelons in the civil service last night as a “routine affair” , he ruled out any correlation of this development with early Assembly polls.

“The only poll we are preparing for right now is the Rae Bareli bypoll. The Vidhan Sabha poll are a good one year away” he maintained.

The SP stand is in contrast to the BSP declaration made by party national President Mayawati earlier this week. She had announced that her party would not field a candidate against the UPA chairperson.
