Workability
Method at work
I.M. Soni
What characterises you at work? Method or muddle? Finesse or fumble? The choice, as well as the answer, must come from you. If you muddle, fumble, the following steps may help improve your self-organisation.
Mark your time carefully, allotting your various commitments to what you might call time-slots in your work. Lay aside a chunk of time for self-improvement activity.
Ablility vs amiability
in the office
Amy Joyce
Are you a likable employee? How much does it matter to you if your boss is a kind woman? Would you rather work with someone who knows what he is doing but is a jerk? Or would you rather be on a project with someone who might be a bit clueless but really nice?
Modifying resume format
Maryann Haggerty
Robert Martin spent 22 years with the Air Force.
Since 2004, he has been a civilian management analyst and records
manager.
Martin’s resume shows that he has held four jobs in two
years, says George Steeg, who leads a resume-writing class. “Since
it’s only three employers, we collapse to three employer headings.
If it’s possible to show ‘promoted to’ or ‘selected for’
in the most recent assignment for the most recent employer, it will
help. Similarly, showing ‘recruited for’ or ‘requested to’
if possible for the two earlier civilian employers will also
help.’’
Smart Skills
Dietetics a healthy option
Usha Albuquerque
Today, we are spoilt for choices of food — burgers and pizzas, tandoori, south Indian, Thai, Mexican, Chinese, Mongolian — ‘you name it, we have it’ kind of options. Cooking methods, readymade foods, and availability of all kinds of ingredients has also brought these options within the reach of everyone. But, at the same time, we are also bombarded by cautionary messages everyday. Did you know that a non-vegetarian burger adds 350 to 400 calories to your already existing body layers plus 40 gm of fat? Never before has there been such an acute consciousness of healthy diets and an awareness of foods.
