Delhi Police files appeal in HC
Jessica Lall murder case
New Delhi, March 13
The Delhi Police under fire from all quarters for its “shoddy” investigation in the Jessica Lall murder case, finally filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court today, claiming that the trial judge had “ignored” vital circumstantial evidence, which was sufficient to convict main accused Manu Sharma and eight of his relatives and friends.

Govt consults states on report on judicial reforms
New Delhi, March 13
Amidst awakening calls by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Chief Justice of India Y.K. Sabharwal for judicial reforms, specially revamping the criminal justice system, the Centre is having a discussion with states on implementation of the Malimath Committee report, suggesting protection of witnesses and separation of prosecution from investigation.

Caste-based harassment led to a poverty-ridden family of nine committing suicide in the early hours of this morning at Dateli village under Mitauli police station, about 40 km from Lakhim Kheri district headquarters.

The Bhoiwada Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court here today sentenced Abishek Kasliwal, a prominent textile mill owner, to police custody till March 17 for allegedly raping a woman early Sunday morning.

New security regimen in Varanasi
Lucknow, March 13
Devotees will now have to pass beneath door-frame metal detectors and put up with frisking by policemen with a hand-held detector as a new security regimen comes into force at the Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi, informed police sources.
