Militants gun down 2 cops

Srinagar, March 1
Four persons, including two police personnel, were killed by militants while the security forces busted a hideout and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition and RDX in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

An official spokesman said militants shot dead an employee of the Animal Husbandry Department at Marhama in Anantnag district last night.

He said an encounter took place between militants and the security forces at Chankhan Sopore in North Kashmir during a search operation today. Two police personnel, including a Special Police Officer (SPO) were killed. The militants, however, escaped, he said.

Militants kidnapped and later killed Shabir Ahmad Bhat, a forest guard, at Chatroo in Doda district of Jammu region this morning.

The security forces busted a hideout at Tummina Vilgam village in Kupwara district and seized one AK rifle, five magazines, 420 cartridges, one pistol, three timer devices, 10 detonators, 10 hand grenades, one wireless set, four UBGL shells and half a kg of RDX. However, no one was arrested. — UNI
