Daya Nayak surrenders
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, February 20
Mumbai police’s encounter specialist Sub-Inspector Daya Nayak today surrendered before the Sessions Court before the expiry of a 12-noon deadline ordered by the court.

Nayak, who came to the court to surrender, did so amid media spotlight. Before turning himself in, Nayak said he perceived threat to his life from his former colleagues.

Meanwhile, the authorities at the Arthur Road Central Jail said here that a high security cell has been prepared for Nayak due to threat to his life. The cell was earlier used to house gangster Abu Salem who was extradited from Portugal.

Nayak called up television channels to denounce former senior Mumbai police officials. In interviews that ran through yesterday and today, he said he was used by senior police officials to kill gangsters. Subsequently, the officers decided to ‘sacrifice’ him at the behest of their political masters.
