Privatisation of

CPM general secretary
Prakash Karat today reiterated that they (Left parties)
would launch agitations from February 16, the day of the
opening of the Budget session of the Lok Sabha, both
inside and outside Parliament against the UPA’s policies
on the privation of airports, Iran nuclear issue, FDI’s
retail investments and other anti-people policies.

PSUs launch one-India plan

across the country
New Delhi, February 10
In a major bonanza to subscribers,
telecom PSUs, BSNL and MTNL, today launched “OneIndia” plan charging
maximum tariff of Re 1 for a call to any place in the country. The BSNL
Chairman, Mr A.K. Sinha, and MTNL’s chief, Mr R.S.P Sinha, unveiled
the plan at a joint press conference here, saying the new rates would be
effective from March 1.

charge against Sirsa teacher
Sirsa, February 10
On the heels of reports of sexual
harassment of some girl students in a school in Jind district, a teacher
has been accused of raping a 13-year-old physically challenged
schoolgirl over a long period and making her pregnant in Sirsa district
of Haryana.
Pakistan
digs canal near Sir Creek
Bhuj, February 10
Pakistan has dug a 2-km long canal,
parallel to the U-shaped Harami nullah, near the controversial Sir Creek
area, which could have serious security implications, intelligence
sources said.

Kargil
under curfew, DSP’s house torched
Jammu, February 10
Curfew was imposed today in Kargil
town of Ladakh where hundreds of Muslim protesters took to streets and
torched official residence of the Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Curfew continues to be clamped in the Leh town and Army has been called
out in the Nubra area where tension was brewing. Army has been called
out to control the situation as incidents of arson and violence spread
in the Kargil town.

government in poll-bound West Bengal, the Election Commission today
voiced concern over the administration’s “poor performance” in
executing non-bailable warrants against criminals and
“unsatisfactory” electoral roll revision.
