Two brothers of Block Cong chief
shot Abohar, February 6 According to information Mr Gaganjit Singh Tinna, a former District Youth Congress president and another person entered the Truck Operators Union complex at 5 PM when call for the booking of trucks was in progress. They allegedly abused Mr Baljit Singh sarpanch of Danewala village and elder brother of Truck Union President Balbir Singh Danewalia who was president of the Block Congress Committee Khuyiansarwer and known as right hand man of Parliamentary Secretary Sunil Jakhar. Amidst exchange of hot words Gaganjit reportedly fired from his revolver injuring Baljit Singh seriously and sped away. Mr Baljit Singh was rushed to the Nehru Memorial Civil Hospital. The police from the nearby police complex rushed to the Truck Union and the hospital in two teams. After a few minutes Gaganjit, his elder brother Gurjit Singh Tinna, Sonu Swami president of the Fruit and Vegetable association and another persons reached the hospital, parked their motorcycles near the emergency ward, forced entry in to the ward with rifle, revolver and sword. They reportedly opened fire indiscriminately injuring Block Congress president Balbir Singh Danewalia inside the operating theatre. Patients under-treatment in the emergency ward took shelter under beds, and some of them rushed outside. All this happened in the presence of the police. Sources said that some one snatched a weapon from the assailants and fired back killing Gurjit Singh Tinna inside the emergency ward. Baljit Singh sarpanch succumbed to injuries. The police had to use lathis to disperse supporters of both groups as tension mounted after the killings. Even journalists were not permitted to enter the ward. Bodies were lying soaked in blood. The ward was got vacated. Gaganjit Singh Tinna also received injuries. His wife is a Congress Councillor here. The police has seized some of the weapons used in the killing, sources added. Tension between both factions had been going on since the removal of slain Gurjit Singh Tinna alias Churla from the office of the Truck Union three years back. Some supporters of the Churla faction allegedly had took away accounts books from the Union’s office yesterday. |
