Sensex breaches 10,000 barrier

Mumbai, February 6
Sensex today made history by breaching the 10,000 mark on the back of large-scale buying by funds. Sensex went on to touch 10,002.83 points before closing lower at 9980.42 gaining 237.44 points from the previous close. Nifty too touched an intra-day high of 3008.95 before slipping to close at 3,000.45.

According to the BSE, the total market turnover today was at Rs 35,366.88 crore while the cash turnover was at Rs 6,970 crore. The NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 24,537.71 crore. The BSE cash turnover was at Rs 3,859.17 crore.

Today’s gainers were led by ICICI Bank, which closed 6.4 per cent higher at Rs 607. HDFC was up 2.5 per cent at Rs 1,338 while HDFC Bank gained 1.7 per cent to close at Rs 745. SBI gained 1 per cent at Rs 865. Among pharma scrips, Ranbaxy soared over 6 per cent to Rs 414 after it announced a joint venture with a South African firm to tap the African market.
