Don’t succumb to US pressure, Left tells govt
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, January 28
As the countdown for the US President George Bush’s visit to India begins, Washington is setting the agenda for the Communists to react and issue diktat to the UPA government of the do’s and don’ts.

After Iran-IAEA nuclear issue, the latest is the Bush administration’s warning to New Delhi not to go ahead with the move to acquire stakes in oilfields in Syria.

“The UPA government should immediately make public the nature of the US intervention in the Syrian oilfield affair and make a categorical statement that it disapproves all such moves,” the CPM Politburo said here today.

The USA, reports said, has asked the Indian Government not to proceed to acquire an oilfield in Syria in partnership with China.
