345 killed in Haj stampede
Six Indians among dead

Dubai, January 12
Tragedy struck on the last day of Haj when at least 345 Muslim pilgrims, including possibly six Indians, were crushed to death in a stampede after tripping over strewn luggages as tens of thousands of devotees rushed to complete the symbolic stoning ritual in Mina near Mecca today.

Miraculous escape for Jodhpur Express passengers
Patiala, January 12
The negligence on the part of railway officials at Dhablan railway station almost cost passengers of the 4888 Jodhpur-Kalka/Hardwar Express their lives while another official’s alertness helped avert a major disaster early today. The passengers had a providential escape when the train hit a goods train from the rear near Dhablan, about 12 km from here.

One of the biggest foreign direct investment projects in the country, the 350 million Himalayan Ski Village in Kulu is facing opposition from the most unusual quarter, the local Jamlu deity, who has exhorted the 365 ‘devtas’ in the Valley of Gods to oppose the project.
