Abu Salem confesses to killing Jain
Tribune News Service and UNI

Mumbai, January 3
The Mumbai police says mafia don Abu Salem has confessed to the murder of builder Pradeep Jain.

According to the police, Salem claimed to have carried out the hit on Jain on the instructions of Dawood Ibrahim and his brother Anees.

The police says Salem ordered Jain’s killing after the builder refused to hand over a piece of land to the gangster.

Meanwhile, Salem’s lawyer, Harjyot Singh, claimed here that the confession was extracted under pressure.

The brain mapping and narco analysis tests, conducted on Salem in Bangalore last week, have not been received so far.

Salem, who was produced before TADA Judge Pradeep Bavkar, was remanded to judicial custody till January 31.

The prosecution would seek further police custody of Salem, if required, on the receipt of the reports of scientific tests on the gangster.

After the brain mapping and narco analysis tests at Bangalore last week, Salem had volunteered to make a confessional statement, which the DCP recorded yesterday.

This is Salem’s second confessional statement to the police since he was extradited from Portugal in November last year. He had earlier confessed his role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
