Amritsar, December 25
For Bawa Singh and his ailing wife it was a Christmas gift. They were re-united by the police with their son Jaspreet Singh after two and half years of abduction.

Jaspreet Singh (10) was abducted by Ashok Singh of Ghanupur Kalen village from near his house on the Sultanwind road. He was kept in the house of Ashok Singh and his brother Sohan Singh in Ghanupur Kalen.

Jaspreet Singh, holding the hand of his elder sister Amandeep Kaur narrated the ordeal he had undergone during his captivity. He was made to work in a blanket factory of Bhagwant Singh, who has been absconding for Rs 800 a month. The amount was pocketed by Ashok Singh.

Mr R.P.S. Brar, SSP, said to hide real identity of Jaspreet Singh his abductors changed his name to Salim and had his hair shorn. He said they raided the house today on a tip-off.

Jaspreet was student of class III when he was abducted. The SSP added he (Jaspreet) was not even allowed to speak to strangers and kept under vigil. His attempts to escape were answered with thrashing by his abductors. Apart from working in the factory he was made to do domestic chores. He said whenever he refused to obey their abductors’ orders he was beaten up. The SSP said that both accused had been arrested and booked under Sections 365, 506 and 34 of the IPC.
