Srinagar, December 25
A top commander of Pakistan-based Al-Badr was among four militants killed by the security forces while a militant was arrested in the state overnight, an official spokesman said.

He said the CRPF and the police today launched a joint operation at Boat Colony, Bemina, after receiving a tip-off that some militants were hiding in a house, there.

However, when the security forces were about to storm the house, they came under heavy fire from militants. The cordon around the house was further tightened and militants were asked to surrender.

He said one militant was killed and four security personnel were injured in the encounter, which ended this afternoon.

The slain militant was identified as Al-Badr district commander Wasim, alias Saine, alias Shamim, of Pakistan. An AK rifle, four magazines and a grenade launcher were seized.

The spokesman said security forces and the police, in a joint operation, killed two militants in an encounter at Salwah. The encounter ensued after a patrol party was attacked by the militants.

Another militant of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba Abu Umer was killed by security forces during a search operation at Hari Marhote in Poonch district of the Jammu region in the early hours.

The police arrested a militant along with two AK rifles at Pulwama in south Kashmir.

A Defence Ministry spokesman said troops on a specific information conducted a search operation at Pathri Behak, near the Line of Control (LoC), in the Rampore area where the killer quake had claimed several lives.

It was after a long search that the troops finally reached the area where the militants had dumped arms and ammunition in a specially built hide-out.

Troops later recovered three AK rifles, nine pistols, 21 magzines, around 1,000 rounds of ammunition, two pistol silencers, 11 detonators and 10 kg of explosives.

He said the arms and ammunition were stored there by the militants.
