Cold claims 2 more lives

Chandigarh, December 19
Two persons died of severe cold wave that continued to sweep the north-west India with the mercury hovering 1°C to 5°C below normal at many places in the region today.

Diwan Singh, died at Dugri village in Gurdaspur district last night. While an unidentified youth died due to cold wave near the vegetable and grain market at Hoshiarpur today.

With these deaths, the toll due to cold wave in the region has gone up to seven.

Dense fog enveloped several areas, including Hindon, Sirsa, Sarsawa, Ambala, Halwara and Amritsar, reducing visibility considerably, affecting road and rail traffic.

Most of the long distance trains were running two hours to five hours behind schedule on the Delhi-Jammu and Delhi-Amritsar routes, a report from Jalandhar said. — UNI
