Omar AbdullahSrinagar, December 19
Hailing the Indo-Pakistan dialogue process, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah here today sought tripartite talks to resolve Kashmir by considering views of all political parties of the state. He said a round-table conference of political parties would be held soon to discuss the issue of a solution to the Kashmir problem.

Dr Abdullah was addressing delegates of the National Conference at its headquarters, Nawa-I-Subh, on the occasion of the re-election of his son Omar Abdullah as party’s president here. “Any decision towards the resolution of Kashmir without taking into confidence people of all regions of the state will not be acceptable”, Dr Abdullah said. He added a final decision in this direction would be taken by its people, with an end to militancy which had killed one lakh persons over the past 16 years.

Mr Omar Abdullah after being re-elected president of the National Conference, said that a conference on Kashmir was being held in a couple of months. All political parties should be allowed to attend the meet for an amicable solution to the Kashmir problem and an end to the gun culture. “The gun would not fall silent unless the Kashmir issue is resolved”, he pointed out adding that there was no time to wait for the gun to fall silent.
