Tainted MPs file reply New Delhi, December 14 The MPs belonging to the BJP, the Congress, the RJD and the BSP this morning submitted their reply to the show-cause notices issued by the Parliament Secretariat. The five-member inquiry committee headed by Chandigarh MP Pawan Kumar Bansal asked the cobrapost.com-Aaj Tak, which carried out the sting operation to expose the scam, to submit the footage. “We will be hearing all 10 members. We will also be calling the TV channel to come before the committee,” Mr Bansal told reporters. He said the committee would hear the case on a daily basis as the members had sent their reply. The committee members include Prof V.K. Malhotra (BJP), Mr Ram Gopal Yadav (SP), Mohammad Salim (CPI-M) and Mr C. Kuppusami (DMK). Asked whether it was a fact that the 10 members pleaded that they were not guilty, Mr Bansal said it would not be proper to divulge the contents as the inquiry was on. He said the committee would decide tomorrow the procedure to be adopted and the questions to be asked from the MPs. When referred to the Rajya Sabha Ethics Committee’s interim order of suspending the MPs, Mr Bansal said the committee had not yet decided whether to submit an interim report to the Speaker. The committee had been directed to submit its report on December 21. Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had asked the MPs not to attend the House till the completion of the probe. All parties have suspended the MPs who were shown to have received money. |
