Woman raped in train
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, December 6
The Government Railway Police has arrested five followers of Babasaheb Ambedkar for the rape of a 20-year-old woman in Pawan Express plying between Mumbai and Nashik.

The woman was raped early this morning between Nasik and Igatpuri stations, the police said. Five persons had so far been arrested and a hunt was on for eight others in the incident.

According to the police, the gangrape was one of several incidents in Mumbai-bound trains by people mobilised by different Dalit political parties in the state. Every year on December 6, thousands of followers of Dr B R Ambedkar visit Chaityabhoomi at Dadar on the occasion of his death anniversary.

Most of them forcibly board trains to Mumbai without tickets and the helpless railway authorities usually let them through. The Police said goods belonging to several passengers were also looted.

The railway police have also registered cases of looting on board several trains including Pawan Express, Amritsar Express, Vidarbha Express and Lucknow Superfast.
