Reconsider expulsion, says Uma

Bhopal, December 6
Appealing for reconsideration of her expulsion, Ms Uma Bharati today sent a petition to the BJP disciplinary committee requesting she be given a chance to explain her viewpoint. “Acquiescing to the BJP parliamentary board’s decision to expel me will tantamount to destroying internal democracy and a submission to unjustified and illogical decisions, besides destroying the self-respect of lakhs of workers,” she said in her petition to committee chairman Ram Naik.

“I would like to personally present my views before Mr Naik and other members of the committee at the conclusion of my padyatra at Ayodhya on January 14,” Ms Bharati said responding to the board’s decision to expel her from primary membership “for indiscipline and anti-party activities”.

“I will not submit to the unjustified decision as it will hurt the self-respect of lakhs of workers,” she said accusing the board of indiscipline and damaging the BJP ideology and the country’s prestige.

She told mediapersons at Khandera in Raisen district that “the charges against other top leaders were made in self-defence.” She alleged that the party’s apex body had no representation of farmers, labourers and weaker sections.

The sadhvi said she would launch a campaign to “drive thieves out of the house” but would not quit the party. She claimed that the manner in which she was “sacrificed” actually resulted in lakhs of workers and several senior leaders expressing solidarity with her.

Ms Bharati said the action taken against her would definitely generate a debate on internal democracy. She also alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to destroy grassroots leaders.

On the Ram temple issue, Ms Bharati said the Prime Minister and President should come forward with a solution as in the case of the Somnath temple. — UNI
