New Delhi, December 3
Punjab Local Bodies Minister Jagjit Singh today sought inclusion of cities like Patiala and Mohali in the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) which was launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today.

Making his suggestions during the meeting of ministers from states with Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Minister of State for Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Mr Jagjit Singh said the pattern of central funding for the JNNURM projects in Punjab should be on the pattern of hilly states as the state had borne the brunt of militancy.

He said further discussions were needed over some of the suggested reforms including that of bringing down stamp duty to less than 5 per cent in seven years.

Ludhiana and Amritsar are cities in Punjab covered under the JNNURM.

Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kaul Singh said urban areas were growing at a fast pace in the state.

He said problems faced by Shimla, including insufficient urban transport, parking and water supply, should be addressed under the mission. In Haryana, Faridabad has been included under the JNNURM.
