Advani seeks resignation of Natwar, Sonia Gandhi

Jaipur, December 3
Considering Croatian Ambassador Aneil Matherani's sensational disclosure in the Iraq's oil-for-food programme, the Congress president Sonia Gandhi should immediately resign owning responsibility for the corruption in the party, BJP President L K Advani said here today.

"After Matherani's allegations against Natwar of his involvement in the oil coupons scam, the UPA government and the Congress cannot deny the truth and has lost the right to disown the Volcker committee report as unverified", Advani told mediapersons after a party's women wing function here.

"I believe that Natwar should be removed forthwith from the UPA ministry and the same criteria be applied for the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and she should quit from her post," he demanded.

When asked to react on Uma Bharti's actions in Bhopal, the BJP president refused to comment.

Mr Advani today asked women to come forward to check female foeticide and promote education of girls up to college level for development of society and the nation.

"Female foeticide is a crime and social stigma in the era of national development, hence women should bring awareness and make a message of gender equality," Advani told thousands of BJP women activists at the All-India Mother's Power Conference here.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said, "If women march with confidence and determination for development, no one can create hurdles in their progress."

She said during her two years in power war widows, separated women and girls were given top priority in all financial and educational schemes.

Meanwhile, in its political resolution adopted at the conference, the BJP Mahila Morcha demanded that a women reservation Bill, pending for the past 18 months, be tabled in Parliament for empowerment of women in politics.— PTI
