Amitabh undergoes surgery

The condition of superstar Amitabh Bachchan admitted to Leelavati Hospital here is worse than reported so far. He had to undergo surgery in his large intestine and colon, according to reports from the hospital.

Reports said the actor was suffering from complications arising from an old wound sustained by the actor during the shooting of “Coolie” 23 years ago. Then Amitabh had to undergo 14 incisions on his stomach and was in coma for three days before making a miraculous recovery.

Amitabh’s condition has been aggravated because of his ailment myastenia gravis, a muscular degenerative condition. He was rushed from Delhi’s Escorts Hospital two days ago in weakened condition.

The actor was in plain throughout Tuesday, though he received some comfort after medication, according to sources. Doctors had then attributed his condition to simple colitis. However, tests seem to have indicated more serious illness.

Three teams of doctors were attending on Bachchan. Diverculitis, a serious intestinal ailment, is suspected.
