The Bhartiya Janata Party today decided to appoint its Lok Sabha MP from Vidisha Shivraj Singh Chauhan as the next Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister replacing Babulal Gaur and making fiery sanyasin Uma Bharti the General Secretary of the party at the national level.

Rain floods 180 TN villages
Chennai, November 26
Tamil Nadu continued to reel under flood fury despite the abatement of rain, even as the Army was pressed into service for relief operations and to rescue lakhs of people marooned in the worst-affected Cuddalore and Tiruchirapalli districts today. About 180 villages were still under a sheet of water and at least one lakh people were marooned in Cuddalore district.

Kalam assures all help to quake-hit in Kashmir
Srinagar, November 26
The President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, today assured the quake-affected people in Tangdhar near the Line of Control of all help and assistance and expressed concern for the sufferers. He expressed sympathies with the residents of the area who had gathered to apprise the President of their agony and losses.

Cong woos Raj Thackeray
Mumbai, November 26
The Congress is wooing Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray’s nephew Raj Thackeray. Addressing a press conference here, Shiv Sainik-turned-Congress man Sanjay Nirupam said Raj was being wooed to join the Congress. Nirupam is a former confidant of Raj Thackeray and one-time editor of party mouthpiece Saamna.

In less than three months, the CBI has filed a charge-sheet in the one of the three cases registered in connection with the communal clash at Gohana in Sonepat district of Haryana and booked nine persons in connection with the murder of a shopkeeper.

Industrialist and aviator Vijaypat Singhania today set a new ballooning world record flying on a hot air balloon to break the world record of 64,997 feet set by Per Lindstrand of Sweden in June, 1988, at Texas.
