Patna, October 22
The battle between the RJD-led secular democratic front and the Election Commission on the issue of the alleged “controversial” release of the brother of the Union Minister of State, Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav, the RJD candidate Vijay Prakash Yadav from police custody took a turn for the worse.

The Superintendent of Police, Jamui, Arvind Kumar, today lodged an FIR against the Union Minister Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav for allegedly misusing his official power to get his brother released illegally from police custody on October 18. The FIR was lodged after the election commission declared to probe the role of the minister in the release of his brother.

The move by the SP followed a case being field against him before the acting Chief judicial magistrate of Jamui, R.K. Srivastava, by the RJD candidate Vijay Prakash Yadav accusing the former of “conspiring” to kill him in police custody.

Mr Vijay Prakash was arrested by the SP Arvind Kumar for carrying arms, cash and liquor on the polling day of October 18 and subsequently taken to police custody. Later on, the Union Minister and the brother of Mr Vijay Prajas, Mr Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav had reached the police station and allegedly misused his “ministerial” power to get his brother released on personal bond.

The SP also lodged an FIR against the OC of Kherai police station, Mukteswar Prasad, for releasing Mr Vijay Prakash on personal bond.

On their part, the police were yet to trace Mr Vijay Prakash as the Election Commission already ordered to rearrest him. “We do not know his whereabouts as he was released on personal bond”, a police official said.

Meanwhile, the RJD-led Secular Democratic Front stepped up its campaign against the Election Commission with the Union Minister of State for Communication Shakeel Ahmed asked the commission to discharge its duties with “full transparency” by not raising doubts in anyone’s mind.

Mr Ahmed virtually gave a clean chit to Mr Vijay Prakash by stating that one could not hold the RJD candidate guilty for carrying arms, cash and liquor until the court gave its verdict.
