An estimated 30,000
persons were killed in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir by a massive earthquake, the region’s Minister for Works and Communication, Mr Tariq Farooq, said today.

Stepping up rescue and relief efforts, troops joined by local people today struggled to access remote villages and sifted through rubbles of flattened houses pulling out more bodies in quake-hit Kashmir valley as the death count in the killer tremblor leapfrogged past 700.

The 60-year old Rasheeda Begum was fending for herself even till today as no one had come forward to help her injured husband to be evacuated for medical assistance to the nearby medical camp, more than 36 hours after the tragedy struck the entire region.

2 convicts rape woman as cops stand guard
Amritsar, October 9
A convict, serving a sentence in the local high security central jail, along with another convict, raped his estranged wife in an abandoned house with the connivance of the police personnel, who had escorted them to the Civil Hospital, and doctors, the police said today.
