Mumbai, September 16
Though heavy rainfall in northern Maharashtra stopped since this morning, the flood situation worsened, submerging the Bhandara-Nagpur link of National Highway 6 in Maharashtra.
According to sources, the Army has evacuated 15,000 people from Bhandara district and 6,000 in Gondia district.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who is on a tour of the flood-affected districts of Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia districts in Vidarbha region, has blamed the Madhya Pradesh Government for the flood situation in the region.
Mr Deshmukh said the MP government had not warned Maharashtra before releasing waters from Sanjay Gandhi Sarovar in Balaghat upstream, thereby causing flooding here.
