India confirms Sarabjit’s identity to Pak
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 5
India today confirmed Sarabjit Singh's identity to Pakistan, paving the way for the Indian condemned prisoner in Lahore to file a review petition in the Pakistani Supreme Court for securing his release.

A senior official in the Ministry of External Affairs told The Tribune this evening that Pakistan was conveyed through diplomatic channels that Sarabjit Singh was not Manjit Singh who has been sentenced to death on espionage and terrorism charges.

It looks reasonably certain now that the Pakistan government would not act in haste in implementing the court verdict on Sarabjit. Rather, Islamabad would wait and watch the next move from Sarabjit himself as the establishment of his identity from Government of India as Sarabjit Singh (and not Manjit Singh) has apparently knocked the very bottom out of the prosecution's case.

Sarabjit's case has already been strengthened by a key witness of the Pakistani prosecution, who has openly stated on camera to Indian television channels that he had been pressured by Pakistani agencies to say in court what he said.
