Trinamool leader rubbishes charges; to move court
Kolkata, August 19
Veteran CPM Politburo member, Harkishan Singh Surjeet has alleged that during the 1984 Sikh riots, Ms Mamata Banerjee and several other Congress leaders in Bengal, were involved in an attempt to kill Sikhs in Kolkata.

Relocate ’84 riot victims, Punjab asks Centre
New Delhi, August 19
The Punjab Government today sought Centre’s assurance in extending necessary help for employment and rehabilitation to members of 32,000 Sikh families who got displaced from their homes in various states during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and are now residing in various parts of Punjab.

Amnesty seeks speedy justice for ’84 riot victims
New Delhi, August 19
Human rights watchdog Amnesty International has urged the Indian Government to punish any individual, including police or government officials, found responsible for human rights violations during the violence against Sikhs in Delhi in 1984. “The organisation is concerned about further delays in the pursuit of justice for these victims and continuing impunity for its perpetrators,” the human rights body said in a statement.

BJP demands recall of Governor; What is the big deal, says Lalu
New Delhi, August 19
Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party demanded the recall of Bihar Governor Buta Singh for having written an official letter of recommendation for transfer of a railways official to Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav, the Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo today tried to downplay the controversy saying “it is all natural (for the Governor) to write a letter to me.”

Cong in dilemma on Buta’s removal
New Delhi, August 19
The Congress is both embarrassed and concerned over Bihar Governor Buta Singh’s conduct but is in a dilemma over his removal. Although there was no official word on the latest controversy over the governor’s letter to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav regarding the transfer of a senior Railways official, the party is clearly unhappy over Mr Buta Singh’s penchant for courting controversy.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has suspended the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Jhajjar, Mr Sudhir Jivan. A decision to this effect was taken at a full court meeting of the high court on Wednesday evening.
