No evidence of SIMI involvement in Ayodhya attack

New Delhi, August 10
The government today said there had been no evidence so far of the involvement of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in the July 5 terrorist attack on Ram Janam Bhoomi in Ayodhya.

No activist of SIMI had been arrested or property seized in this connection, Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal told the Rajya Sabha during Question Hour.

The Minister did not, however, rule out the terrorists’ links with their mentors from across the border.

He said investigations were still on in the case and the inquiries so far had revealed that terrorists had made a preparatory stay for sometime at Akbarpur prior to the attack.

Five people had so far been arrested in this case.

The Minister said there were inputs suggesting that LeT network had made plans to attack the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehra Dun, and IT companies in Bangalore.

However, the plans were foiled by security forces after they busted an LeT module in Delhi on March 5 in which three terrorists were killed and five arrested.

Replying to another question, the Minister said during the current year till June, 2005, considerable quantities of RDX, gelatin, gelatin sticks, gunpowder and other explosives, including slurry had been seized mainly from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra etc.

To a question on Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said there had been an increase in infiltration in the state. — UNI
