NDA, Left want action, not just resignation
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 10
The Opposition NDA and the Left Parties tonight demanded concrete action and implementation of the Nanavati Commission recommendations in full.

Reacting to the resignation of Jagdish Tytler from his ministership, BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said: “Our demand was not only removal of the suspected Ministers from the Cabinet, but also filing of cases and prosecution of the guilty.”

Mr Tytler, Union Minister for NRI Affairs, speaking to reporters after submitting his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, said his resignation was a bid to clear his name from the 1984-riots.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa told The Tribune that the party would not rest till all those named as accused in the Nanavati Commission report were tried. The Akalis would continue to mount pressure on the government to initiate criminal proceedings against them, Mr Dhindsa said and claimed that Mr Tytler was forced to resign under pressure mounted by SAD and other NDA allies.

Mr Naqvi also took a dig at Mr Tytler for tendering his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi instead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “This vindicates our charge that Ms Gandhi is a Super Prime Minister without any accountability,” Mr Naqvi said.
