Landslide on Shimla Mall

Shimla, August 6
Several areas of the state were lashed by heavy rains, causing damage to crops and triggering landslides.

The rains accompanied by high velocity winds damaged maize crop in Hamirpur district. The Khanaui and Nadaun areas along the left bank of the Beas were worst hit.

Rains triggered landslides in Shimla town affecting traffic on roads linking suburbs of the town. A major landslide on the Mall Road hampered pedestrian movement.

Several link roads in interiors of Shimla, Kulu and Sirmour districts were blocked due to landslides.

KULU: A cloudburst in the Khokhan area of Kulu district has damaged property estimated to be in thousands after the water entered shops and houses and washed away a motor cycle and an auto-rickshaw, the police said. The sudden rise in the water level in the Dunga nullah, near Bhuntar, after the cloudburst created panic in the area.

However, there was no loss of life. The water also entered the main market of Bhuntar. The Bhuntar-Khokhan road was extensively damaged and would take months before it was restored, the police added. — PTI, UNI
