Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 5
The government has assured the Lok Sabha that it would look into the concerns expressed by members regarding Indian prisoners, especially youths from Punjab, who went abroad `illegally’ for jobs, languishing in Pakistan jails.

BJP MP from Hoshiarpur Avinash Rai Khanna, raising the issue of the problems faced by Punjab youths in the Lower House, said several of them had finished their sentences and their nationality had been proved. Still no effort was being made to get them back to the country.

Avinash Rai Khanna said 6,730 Indians were languishing in different jails abroad and urged the government to expedite their return to the motherland.
