Magsaysay Award for V. ShantaSingapore, August 1
Dr V. Shanta, chairperson of Chennai-based Adiyar Cancer Institute, was among those selected
for the Ramon Magsaysay Award for public service this year. The 70-year-old physician was awarded
in recognition of her “untiring leadership of the cancer institute as a centre of excellence and compassion for
the study and treatment of cancer in India,” the citation from the Magsaysay Foundation said today. The award
will be presented on August 31 at Manila in Philippines. — UNI
