New Delhi, August 1
Amid controversy over the transfer of 17 IPS officers, Bihar Governor Buta Singh tonight had a 35-minute meeting with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil here.
During the meeting, Buta Singh is understood to have acknowledged that he had differences with Chief Secretary G. Kang who has gone on leave protesting the transfers without consulting him.
PATNA: In an apparent move to patch-up with the aggrieved Bihar Chief Secretary G.S. Kang, who went on protest leave over transfer of 17 IPS officers, Governor Buta Singh today visited Mr Kang’s residence requesting him to join work but the senior official turned down the request.
“Yes, the Governor had come to my house and requested me to join duty. He assured me that my prestige would be restored,” Mr Kang, who was upset for being ignored over transfer of 17 police officers in the rank of Superintendents of Police, told PTI.
BJP president and leader of the opposition L K Advani had on Saturday spoken to Mr Patil and sought his intervention in the wake of the transfers and consequent decision of Chief Secretary G Kang to proceed on long leave.
Alleging that the transfers were made with an eye on the upcoming assembly elections in the state, Mr Advani had sought Mr Patil’s intervention “as the state was under President’s rule and the Centre was directly responsible for its affairs.”
NDA chief ministerial candidate Nitish Kumar and state BJP president Sushil Kumar Modi while demanding Mr Buta Singh’s recall had charged that the transfers were made under pressue from RJD president Lalu Prasad. They said the matter would also be raised in Parliament.
