Centre assures Maharashtra of help

New Delhi, July 27
The Centre today assured the Maharashtra Government of all possible help in dealing with the devastation caused by heavy rains.

Replying to a discussion on droughts and floods in various parts of the country, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said there was no doubt that Maharashtra was suffering.

“Whatever assistance they need from the Government of India, we will give. In one word, we have told the state government to tell us their requirement,” Patil said.

Patil said he joined Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in discussing the situation with state Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today spoke with Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh and enquired about the situation in the state following incessant rains.

The Prime Minister assured him of all possible help from the Centre to deal with the situation.
