Thackeray hits out at Rane
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, July 26
Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray today broke his silence on Sunday’s incidents of violence and alleged that activists of his party were brutally caned by the state police in order to let his expelled colleague Narayan Rane to address public meetings in Mumbai.

Writing in party mouthpiece Saamna, Thackeray heaped abuse on Rane for joining the Congress party. The Sena chief played up Mr Rane’s old speeches lampooning Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. “You had said Mr Gandhi, who does not understand the difference between sun and rain, is dreaming of becoming the Prime Minister of the country. How can she develop the country?— you had asked,” Thackeray said in his open letter to Rane.

The veteran leader than sought to debunk Rane’s allegation that posts were on sale in the Shiv Sena.“I challenge you to show me any one who gave money for any post,” Thackeray said.

He however, added that he would willingly punish anyone found guilty of ‘selling’ posts and ticket.
