Police tapes Aishwarya’s voice
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, July 18
The Mumbai police today collected a voice sample of actress Aishwarya Rai and recorded her statement regarding her alleged conversation with actor Salman Khan where he attempted to coerce her into doing a show for gangster Abu Salem.

According to police officials here, a team from the Crime Branch arrived at the actress’ residence in Bandra in suburban Mumbai and recorded her statement.

Top police officials, including Commissioner A.N. Roy and Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kamlakar, refused to comment till early evening on whether Rai admitted to the conversation, transcripts of which appeared in a newspaper last week.

Rai has so far not filed any complaint against Salman Khan, with whom she had a long affair. Senior police officials had approached Rai several times to formally register a complaint against Khan after he allegedly abused her.

She had, however, desisted from doing so though her parents had approached the police at least once, according to police sources.

The police had on Sunday summoned Salman Khan and recorded his statement on the issue. His voice sample too was “marked”.

Police officials said the voice samples of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai would be sent to the Forensic Laboratory in Hyderabad for verification.
