PM favours no-first-use N-doctrine
New Delhi, July 2
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today gave clear signals of the bipartisan character of the Indian nuclear doctrine, released by the previous NDA government, and said India was a responsible nuclear power which had declared no-first-use policy.

Gujarat deluge cuts off 8000 villages

The authorities today struggled to deliver food, water and medicines to thousands of swamped villages as rains kept pounding Gujarat, raising fears that the death toll in the state’s worst floods could be far higher than the 100-plus. Army, IAF rescue 600 in Gujarat, HP

The Army and the Air Force have come out in full strength to assist the civil administrations in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and have rescued more than 600 persons in the two states where the flood situation continues to be grim.

Mewat land dispute turns bloody, two killed

A group of about 50 persons opened indiscriminate fire on residents of this village this morning, killing two of them on the spot and injuring six. The village is about 10 km from Taoru town on the Sohna-Taoru road and falls in the Taoru Assembly segment.

Cabinet to discuss national transport policy
New Delhi, July 2
A national urban transport policy seeking to promote use of public transport over private vehicles will be placed for approval before the Union Cabinet this month. Union Urban Development Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said the policy envisages building mass transport systems for all cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs.
