Girl paraded naked by father
Anirudh Gupta

Ferozepore, May 12
In a shocking incident, a 19- year-old girl was allegedly paraded naked at Alike village along the Indo-Pakistan border falling under the Sadar police station by her family members. In her statement given to the police, the victim alleged that her mother, who had died some time ago, had finalised her marriage with a boy named Palli, alias Pehalwan, who was in some way related to her. But her father, Chinna Singh, wanted to get her married somewhere else. While narrating her woes, she alleged that she wanted to fulfil her mother’s wish by marrying Palli, but her father due to some monetary allurement wanted her to break the marriage.

She said her father, along with some other relatives, tried to coerce her to marry the person of his choice but when she refused, they got hold of her, trimmed her hair and allegedly paraded her naked in the village.

The police has registered a case against 10 persons, including her father, Cheena Singh, Shammu Singh, Laddu Singh, Malkit Singh, Shera Singh, Nek Singh, Darshan Singh, Reshma, wife of Darshan Singh, Mehandi wife of Ajit Singh, Danni wife of Bagga Singh under Sections 295, 504 and 509 of the IPC.

The police also arrested two women in the connection. Rest of the culprits would soon be arrested, a police official said. Police sources revealed that Palli was the girl’s cousin and both of them had presumably developed a liking for each other. The case is being investigated, the police official added.
