New Delhi, May 3
Stung by the order of the Rajasthan High Court for handing over of the control of three headworks of the Bhakra-Nangal project by Punjab to the BBMB, the state government today swung into action to challenge the matter in the Supreme Court with its Advocate-General having consultation with various legal experts here.

The Punjab Government is going to challenge the High Court order in the Supreme Court and a Special Leave Petition (SLP) will be filed within a week, Punjab’s Advocate-General Harbhagwan Singh told The Tribune.

“I have had consultations with certain legal experts for seeking their opinion as how to proceed with the matter,” Mr Singh said.

Though a decision at the official level is yet to be taken about filing of the SLP, the Advocate General said “the legal opinion on the issue has almost been finalised and will be communicated to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and other government functionaries concerned by tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Punjab’s standing counsel in the Supreme Court, Mr Rupinder Suri, said the state government has a strong case for challenging the High Court order in the apex court.
