No tax on savings cash withdrawals
IT limit for women, senior citizens raised
New Delhi, May 2
The government today modified the controversial proposal of 0.1 per cent tax on cash withdrawals sparing the savings accounts holders from the taxman’s scalpel, whittled down the contentious fringe benefit tax, and raised the tax exemption limit for women and senior citizens.

The Supreme Court today admitted a petition challenging the appointment of Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda as Haryana Chief Minister on the ground that he was not a member of the Vidhan Sabha.

SC admits Amarinder’s plea on wealth tax
New Delhi, May 2
The Supreme Court today admitted a special leave petition of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court order holding that three-fourths of the property of his father, the late Maharaja Yadavindra Singh of Patiala, was “assessable” to wealth tax under the Undivided Hindu Family category.

Thick clouds of dust as well as smoke billowing out of a harvester and the burning of stubble of paddy and wheat in the fields have been exposing people in Punjab to serious infections of both the respiratory tract and eyes.
