Mufti’s nephew shot at, critically wounded

Srinagar, May 1
Militants tonight shot at and seriously wounded a nephew of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Syed in Anantnag district, 45km from here, official sources said.

The militants opened fire from automatic weapons on Atiqullah, nephew of the Chief Minister, outside his residence at Bijdehera at around 8.30 pm, critically injuring him, the sources said.

Atiquallah had been brought to Srinagar for treatment, they said, adding that security forces had cordoned off the area and launched a combing operation to trace the militants.

Meanwhile, a soldier and a militant were killed, while four persons, including two brothers and a soldier, were injured in Jammu and Kashmir overnight. — PTI
