Road pile-up leaves 8 dead Pachranga/Kala Bakra (Jalandhar), April 30 All three vehicles got badly damaged in the accident, which took place at around 1 am killing seven occupants of the Sumo and Qualis. The Delhi-bound Sumo was coming from Vaishno Devi and the Qualis was going to Cheema Khuddian village in Gurdaspur district in connection with some marriage festivities. The accident took place when the Sumo (HR-8C-6775), hit the buffalo and then the truck (JK-03-0475) in the opposite lane. Then the Sumo was hit by the Qualis (PB-29-D2966), which was following the truck. The deceased travelling in the Qualis have been identified as Harinder Pal Kaur, Vir Pal Kaur (19) and her 17-year-old brother Jatinder, Tarsem Lal, owner of the vehicle and Gurjant Singh, driver, all belonging to Moga. The three deceased travelling in the Sumo have been identified as Kapil Dev and his daughters Pooja and Neha, residents of Shahdra in Delhi. The injured Harjit Kaur, Manjit Kaur and Navdip Kaur, a relative of Harjit Kaur, who were in the Qualis, and Rajat, son of deceased Kapil Dev, his wife Sarishta Devi, her nephew Amit, her neighbour Savitiri Devi, Savitiri Devi’s son Latesh Verma and driver Chander Parkash, all residents of Delhi and travelling in the Sumo, were admitted to Jalandhar Civil Hospital. The condition of Harjit Kaur was said to be serious. Ali Mohammed and Mohammed Rafiq, driver and cleaner of the truck, respectively, were also injured, but were discharged after administering first aid. |
