4 militants, boy killed in gunbattle

Srinagar, April 15
Four militants belonging to the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit and a teenaged boy were killed during a gunbattle in Badgam district, the police said today.

Acting on specific information about the presence of the militants, a joint search party of Rashtriya Rifles and the police laid a cordon around Kanyir village in Chadoora tehsil, 25 km from here, yesterday, the police said.

The militants, who were hiding in a house, opened heavy fire on the search party last evening, triggering a fierce gunbattle, which lasted over 24 hours.

While the body of one of the militants was recovered last night, the bodies of three more militants and a boy, identified as Gulzar Ahmad Wagay, a class X student, were recovered from the debris of the house this afternoon, the police said.
