Tribune News Service

Jammu, April 12
The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will flag off at Udhampur the Uttar Samparak Kranti Express and dedicate the 55-km-long Jammu-Udhampur rail link to the nation tomorrow. The Railway Minister, Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav, would be present on the occasion.

This is the second visit of the Prime Minister to Jammu and Kashmir within a week. Earlier, he flagged off the bus service between Srinagar and Mazaffarabad.

The rail link has been built at a cost of Rs 600 crore and is an engineering marvel as it passes through a challenging terrain of mountains, deep gorges and rivers.

The foundation of the project was laid in 1983 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The rail link has the longest tunnel of 2.5 km and the highest bridge of 77 metres on the Gambhir nullah.
