CM promises action against travel
agents cheating youth
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 12
At last, a concrete assurance has come from the Punjab Government to deal with the frauds committed by travel agents on gullible Punjabi youth keen on going abroad in search of better jobs.

Intervening on this important issue raised through a question by the BJP MLA, Mr Tikshan Sud, the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, said in the state assembly today that all cases of frauds by travel agents had been handed over to the Director-General of Police. He had been told to register cases against the travel agents who had been cheating youth.

Specifically referring to the Indian youths recently released from Pakistani jails on his intervention, Capt Amarinder Singh said the DGP had been told to find out the names of the travel agents who duped these boys. “No one involved in swindling the youth will be allowed to go scot free”, he emphasised.

Earlier, giving a reply on the same issue, the Revenue Minister, Mr Amarjit Singh Samra, said a committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary had been set up to deal with the problems faced by the parents of those killed in the Malta boat tragedy. He said the government was aware that the parents were facing problems in securing the death certificates. The government would consider raising the cash relief given to the families of 78 persons killed in the boat tragedy.
